This year's La Liga title is the most hotly contested in recent years as the top three giants Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid are neck and neck in the fight for the title. Despite Atletico Madrid having a promising start to the season where they collected an impressive 50 points from a possible 57,they appear to be limping to the finish line and if not careful could very well see the trophy slip out of their hands at the last minute. Real Madrid and Barcelona had the same nightmare start to the season but a miraculous comeback in the second half of the campaign saw them catch up to the collapsing Atletico Madrid. However, in all due fairness, neither of the teams could claim superiority over the other as they have both looked below par by their standards and even if either of them wins the title, it will be because they were the least bad of them all. Zinedine Zidane's men have stunned many fans and pundits alike by the manner in which they have ground out wins despite having an injury ravaged squad shone of the talents of Daniel Carjaval, Sergio Ramos and of course the fallen Galactico Eden Hazard. The Belgian has made headlines in the last few days more than in the whole two years he has spent at the Bernabeu due to his infamous laughter captured by camera in the aftermath of the Champions League semi-final defeat to Chelsea. That clearly shows how depleted the Real Madrid squad is in terms of lacking match winners in the mold of Ronaldo and it's even surprising how they caught up with Atletico and made it all the way to the Champions League semi-finals. Barcelona on the other hand is a weird team that is difficult to watch on the eye and with Lionel Messi on his way out, some serious rebuilding will have to be done at Camp Nou or else they end up in a transition crisis like Ac Milan or Manchester United. The trophy is surely not in their hands but to be honest, if they were offered the second or third position at the start of the season, they would have gladly accepted it anyway. Atletico Madrid seems to be the most deserving of the three to win the title as they have been up there all season and in spite of a lengthy blip in form at the start of the year, they are racking up crucial victories at the final stages evidenced by their hard fought nervy 2-1 win over Real Sociedad in midweek. It will also be a sweet revenge by Luis Suarez over his former employers Barcelona going by the disgraceful manner in which he was shown the door despite being so instrumental in their glory days as part of the iconic MSN trio.
