Willian seven year stay at Chelsea is set to come to an end after a deadlock over his contract negotiations with the club. The Brazilian wants a 3-year deal while Chelsea has refused to budge on the 2-year contract they have put on the table. This is largely due to Willian being on the wrong side of football at 32 years of age. He will potentially use his impressive performances last season where he scored 9 goals and provided 7 assists as a bargaining chip but whether that form remains as he turns 35 years old by the time his contract ends is highly in doubt. With Arsenal waiting in the wings in the event he chooses to leave Stamford Bridge, it seems the most befitting path for him as he still has friends like David Luiz in the Arsenal team who could prove useful in convincing him to join the Londoners as well as help integrate him into the team. His amazing injury record where he has played for more than 38 games a season since he joined Chelsea 7 years ago from Anzhi Makhachkala is a bonus for him to keep playing at the highest level in the Premier League. Arsenal will have to match his wage demands of 3 years in order to snatch him from the claws of MLS sides who have also shown interest in his services. His $150k per week salary at Chelsea is not too high to take a gamble on if at all Mikel Arteta's side wants to add experience in his relatively young squad. Willian has won a lot of trophies at Chelsea including 2 Premier League titles hence brings a winning mentality to the Arsenal squad that they desperately need. Whether Willian chooses to remain at Chelsea or move on, there is no doubt that there are a couple of good seasons in his legs for any team that gets his services.
